Its season starts before the thermostat does: propane fires grain dryers across the Corn Belt every fall, and a wet harvest can pull volume hard in October and November, weeks ahead of real heating demand. Supply arrives mainly by pipeline from the Gulf Coast, with the inland Conway, Kansas hub acting as this region's own wholesale reference point, priced separately from and usually watched alongside Mont Belvieu. Because Conway sits much closer to Midwest demand than the Gulf Coast does, this region's retail-minus-wholesale spread, on [Midwest retail vs wholesale](/spreads/padd2), often behaves differently than a simple function of the Mont Belvieu price would predict; the Conway-to-Belvieu gap itself is one of the clearest signals of Midwest tightness. Grain-drying demand concentrates in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and the Dakotas; the Oklahoma and Kansas end of the district leans more on wheat and cattle country than on corn.
