## About Connecticut propane prices

Connecticut has no gas processing and no propane trunk pipeline. Barrels arrive at coastal and river terminals by ship and rail, then reach dealers by truck, so a New England cold snap shows up in delivery schedules here faster than it does in the Midwest. Heating oil still heats far more Connecticut homes than propane does, which leaves propane concentrated in the towns and newer subdivisions beyond the gas mains.

This is a surveyed average rather than a quote. EIA polls a sample of Connecticut propane dealers weekly through the October to March heating season and publishes the state figure Wednesday afternoon; the series then goes quiet until October. EIA publishes no wholesale price for Connecticut, so the chart carries the residential line alone. The wholesale series runs at the regional level instead, on the [East Coast price page](/region/padd1). The Census Bureau's American Community Survey, on five-year estimates, puts propane as the main heating fuel in 5.8% of occupied Connecticut homes, around the middle of the state rankings.

The regional numbers around this price are [New England propane prices](/region/padd1a) and [New England propane stocks](/stocks/padd1a), the inventory that has to cover the winter. A price per gallon is not a delivery ticket. The [propane usage calculator](/tools/propane-usage-calculator) estimates gallons burned and what a fill costs at the current Connecticut survey price.

## Common questions

### What is the current propane price in Connecticut?

EIA surveys residential propane prices only from October through March, so there is no current residential figure for Connecticut right now. The [Mont Belvieu spot price](/spot/mont-belvieu) is the year-round wholesale benchmark, and the last surveyed residential price was $4.116/gal on Mar 30, 2026. The weekly survey restarts in October.

### When is propane most expensive in Connecticut?

Residential propane runs highest in the middle of the heating season, ordinarily January and February, and cheapest through the summer while [New England stocks](/stocks/padd1a) are building and nothing is drawing on them. The regional wrinkle is that New England has no propane production and no trunk pipeline of its own, so a cold snap here shows up first as a delivery problem: barrels arriving by ship, rail and truck against a small storage base. [Why propane prices rise in winter](/guides/why-propane-prices-rise-in-winter) has the mechanics.

### Why is there no wholesale propane price for Connecticut?

EIA publishes no state-level wholesale (rack) price for Connecticut, so the chart above carries the residential line alone. The wholesale series runs at the regional level instead, on the [East Coast price page](/region/padd1), and the [Mont Belvieu spot price](/spot/mont-belvieu) is the national wholesale benchmark. [How propane is priced](/guides/how-propane-is-priced) walks through the delivered-service stack that separates a rack gallon from a delivered one.
