About Delaware propane prices
Delaware is small, flat and mostly served by natural gas in the north, so propane demand concentrates in Sussex County and the farm country below the canal. Poultry is the other load: Delmarva broiler houses run propane brooders, and that demand starts before home heating does. Supply comes off Delaware River terminals, the same tankage that serves southeastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey.
This is a surveyed average rather than a quote. EIA polls a sample of Delaware propane dealers weekly through the October to March heating season and publishes the state figure Wednesday afternoon; the series then goes quiet until October. EIA publishes no wholesale price for Delaware, so the chart carries the residential line alone. The wholesale series runs at the regional level instead, on the Central Atlantic price page. The Census Bureau's American Community Survey, on five-year estimates, puts propane as the main heating fuel in 9.2% of occupied Delaware homes, well above the national middle. That is a large block of homes to keep supplied through a cold January.
For context beyond one state, Delaware sits in the Central Atlantic district: regional prices and Central Atlantic propane stocks. A price per gallon is not a delivery ticket. The propane usage calculator estimates gallons burned and what a fill costs at the current Delaware survey price.
Common questions
What is the current propane price in Delaware?
EIA surveys residential propane prices only from October through March, so there is no current residential figure for Delaware right now. The Mont Belvieu spot price is the year-round wholesale benchmark, and the last surveyed residential price was $3.731/gal on Mar 30, 2026. The weekly survey restarts in October.
When is propane most expensive in Delaware?
Residential propane runs highest in the middle of the heating season, ordinarily January and February, and cheapest through the summer while Central Atlantic stocks are building and nothing is drawing on them. The regional wrinkle is that the Central Atlantic carries the heaviest East Coast demand, concentrated upstate in New York and across rural Pennsylvania, and draws on Marcellus gas processing as well as Gulf Coast pipeline supply. Why propane prices rise in winter has the mechanics.
Why is there no wholesale propane price for Delaware?
EIA publishes no state-level wholesale (rack) price for Delaware, so the chart above carries the residential line alone. The wholesale series runs at the regional level instead, on the Central Atlantic price page, and the Mont Belvieu spot price is the national wholesale benchmark. How propane is priced walks through the delivered-service stack that separates a rack gallon from a delivered one.
