Florida propane prices

Florida barely heats with propane at all. What demand exists runs to water heating, cooking, pool and spa heaters, restaurant kitchens and the tanks behind rural homes in the interior counties, not to furnaces. That makes the Florida price a delivery-economics number more than a weather number: a cold week in the Panhandle moves the state average far less than a change in what dealers pay for the gallon does.

The figure above is EIA's weekly survey average for Florida, collected from retail dealers during the October to March heating season and published Wednesday afternoons. No survey runs in the warm months, so the last spring reading stands until the fall. EIA publishes no wholesale price for Florida, so the chart carries the residential line alone. The wholesale series runs at the regional level instead, on the Lower Atlantic price page. The Census Bureau's American Community Survey, on five-year estimates, puts propane as the main heating fuel in 0.9% of occupied Florida homes, the lowest share in the country. Cold weather moves total Florida propane demand far less than it moves the national number.
