Oklahoma propane prices

Oklahoma is a producing state that also buys at retail. Gas processing plants across the Anadarko Basin and the northeast make propane locally, and the state sits close to the Conway hub in Kansas that prices the inland market. Retail demand is rural: homes on tanks outside the gas systems, poultry houses in the east, and grain drying in the wheat and corn counties.

The price above comes from EIA's State Heating Oil and Propane Program, which surveys a sample of retail dealers in Oklahoma once a week and publishes the state average on Wednesday afternoon. It runs October through March only, so nothing new prints between April and September. EIA also surveys a wholesale price for Oklahoma, plotted as the lower line. The distance between the two is the delivered-service stack, and it widens when the rack falls faster than dealers reprice. The Census Bureau's American Community Survey, on five-year estimates, puts propane as the main heating fuel in 6.1% of occupied Oklahoma homes, around the middle of the state rankings.
