About Arkansas propane prices
Arkansas heats a higher share of its homes with propane than most of the South, and much of that demand sits in the Ozarks and the Delta counties where natural gas mains never reached. Poultry adds a second, non-residential load: broiler houses in the northwest corner run propane brooders through cold weather. Barrels arrive by pipeline, rail and truck from Gulf Coast production and from gas processing in Louisiana and Texas.
This is a surveyed average rather than a quote. EIA polls a sample of Arkansas propane dealers weekly through the October to March heating season and publishes the state figure Wednesday afternoon; the series then goes quiet until October. EIA publishes no wholesale price for Arkansas, so the chart carries the residential line alone. The wholesale series runs at the regional level instead, on the Gulf Coast price page. The Census Bureau's American Community Survey, on five-year estimates, puts propane as the main heating fuel in 6.1% of occupied Arkansas homes, around the middle of the state rankings.
Arkansas reports into EIA's Gulf Coast district, so the wider read is Gulf Coast propane prices and the Gulf Coast inventory behind them. A price per gallon is not a delivery ticket. The propane usage calculator estimates gallons burned and what a fill costs at the current Arkansas survey price.
Common questions
What is the current propane price in Arkansas?
EIA surveys residential propane prices only from October through March, so there is no current residential figure for Arkansas right now. The Mont Belvieu spot price is the year-round wholesale benchmark, and the last surveyed residential price was $2.367/gal on Mar 30, 2026. The weekly survey restarts in October.
When is propane most expensive in Arkansas?
Residential propane runs highest in the middle of the heating season, ordinarily January and February, and cheapest through the summer while Gulf Coast stocks are building and nothing is drawing on them. The regional wrinkle is that the Gulf Coast is where most US propane originates, so retail here sits close to the hub and moves more on the Mont Belvieu price than on delivery cost. Why propane prices rise in winter has the mechanics.
Why is there no wholesale propane price for Arkansas?
EIA publishes no state-level wholesale (rack) price for Arkansas, so the chart above carries the residential line alone. The wholesale series runs at the regional level instead, on the Gulf Coast price page, and the Mont Belvieu spot price is the national wholesale benchmark. How propane is priced walks through the delivered-service stack that separates a rack gallon from a delivered one.
