About PADD 3 (Gulf Coast) propane price
The Gulf Coast, PADD 3, covers Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico and Texas, and is where most of the country's propane originates rather than where most of it is used. Mont Belvieu, the salt-cavern storage and export hub that prices US propane, sits inside this region, and refineries and gas processing plants across it produce the bulk of national supply. Retail demand here is mostly rural and small-town: homes on tanks away from the gas mains, poultry houses, and industrial and agricultural users, a different market entirely from the hub trading a few counties away.
Because supply barely has to travel to reach a Gulf Coast customer, this region's retail-minus-wholesale spread, in the table above, runs tighter than any other region on this site: less freight, fewer intermediate handoffs between the Mont Belvieu spot price and the delivery truck. When the Gulf Coast retail price still moves sharply here, it is more often a hub-price story than a delivery-cost story, the opposite of what drives a change on the East Coast.
New Mexico's inclusion is a reminder that PADD boundaries follow historical refining districts rather than modern supply geography: it sits closer to the Rockies than to Houston, but reports here alongside Texas and Louisiana all the same. Texas itself carries the large majority of this district's retail demand simply on population, spread across ranch country and small towns far from any gas main.

In the Oct 26, 2026 survey, Arkansas had the lowest residential price of the four states EIA surveyed on the Gulf Coast, at $2.477/gal, and Alabama the highest, at $3.630/gal: a spread of $1.15 a gallon. When is propane most expensive on the Gulf Coast?
In EIA's weekly survey, which runs October through March, Gulf Coast residential propane set its season high in January in two of the last five heating seasons, February in two and March in one. The season low came in October in four of the last five heating seasons and November in one. From low to high the price moved an average of 23.2 cents a season, and the seasons table above lists each high and low week.
