Connecticut propane prices

Connecticut has no gas processing and no propane trunk pipeline. Barrels arrive at coastal and river terminals by ship and rail, then reach dealers by truck, so a New England cold snap shows up in delivery schedules here faster than it does in the Midwest. Heating oil still heats far more Connecticut homes than propane does, which leaves propane concentrated in the towns and newer subdivisions beyond the gas mains.

This is a surveyed average rather than a quote. EIA polls a sample of Connecticut propane dealers weekly through the October to March heating season and publishes the state figure Wednesday afternoon; the series then goes quiet until October. EIA publishes no wholesale price for Connecticut, so the chart carries the residential line alone. The wholesale series runs at the regional level instead, on the East Coast price page. The Census Bureau's American Community Survey, on five-year estimates, puts propane as the main heating fuel in 5.8% of occupied Connecticut homes, around the middle of the state rankings.
